RQYS had four of their members recently head overseas to Wakatere in New Zealand for the NZ Wing Foiling Nationals.

Laken, Kelson, Laila and Addison went over to represent Australia and RQYS against a very strong and skilled fleet of 117 sailors, the Australian contingent being 11 sailors with the rest being from NSW.

The sailors put on an incredible performance in varying conditions with one of the days sailing alone seeing a variance of 5-25 knots with rain squalls passing through.

Laken was our top placed sailor securing 4th junior in Silver Fleet and top race result of 3rd, 8th overall and 1st place Australian. Laila secured 20th place Silver fleet and Addison secured 21st place Silver fleet, Kelson secured 43rd after being unwell and not completing all races.

Laila and Addison secured 2nd and 3rd placed females in Silver fleet.

Addy had this to report:

We had four competitors from RQYS/Bayside Foiling Club take part in the 2025 Nationals in Wakatere, New Zealand in a fleet of over 70 competitors. It was an incredible experience, with a wide range of conditions that kept everyone on their toes. The shifting breeze and varied wind conditions led to close racing and tough gear decisions throughout the event. We’re stoked with how our squad performed and are excited to keep improving as a team, with hopes to grow the foiling class and get even more people involved! A big thankyou to Mitch Pearson for your support and coaching over the past 12 months which has helped us as a group exponentially!
