This year’s Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart was attended by RQYS Members Tony and Patrick Arnold and family (L to R: Tony Arnold, Patricia Arnold, Patrick Arnold, Dana Arnold, Madelyn Arnold and Josh Bowes).

The Arnolds showcased their wooden boat, ‘Rufred’, a 50” spotted gum/Oregon – striped plank – Bridge Deck Cruiser, designed and built by Fred Fleming in 1988.

The Australian Wooden Boat Festival is the largest celebration of wooden boats and maritime culture in the Southern Hemisphere and is a 4 day, bi-annual festival held in Hobart. The festival brought together a stunning collection of wooden vessels from historic tall ships and classic yachts to traditional fishing boats and saw upwards of 60,000 visitors over the 4 days. Check out the below photos from previous year’s Australian Wooden Boat Festival and get excited for the next festival in 2027!

The Arnold’s are not the only wooden boat enthusiasts and owners here at RQYS, there are many, so we fully understand that it takes a unique set of skills to keep and maintain a wooden boat. On March 27, we have special guest and wooden boat corrosion expert, Jessica Gatt joining us for Topic Talks. Jessica is the managing director of Logix Consulting, a company founded with the vision of providing innovative systems and affordable corrosion control solutions – which she will be discussing with us on the evening.

If you are a wooden boat owner or enthusiast, this will be a worthwhile evening to attend. Follow the link below to secure your seat now!
