The recent Queensland State Laser Titles held over the weekend at Lake Cootharaba showcased a remarkable display of sailing expertise by members of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS). Across all fleets, RQYS sailors demonstrated exceptional skill, firmly establishing their dominance on the racecourse.
This commanding performance underscores the caliber of sailors and the effectiveness of training programs at RQYS, highlighting the club’s commitment to fostering excellence in Laser sailing.
Notably, Head Laser Coach Erin Crowley and RQYS Head Coach Adrian provided invaluable support to the team throughout the event, emphasising the collaborative effort behind RQYS’s success.
The weekend was further enriched by the presence of esteemed guests who shared their insights and experiences with the aspiring sailors. Saturday morning featured a session with Tom King, a distinguished Olympic gold medalist in the 470 class, who imparted wisdom on lake sailing and winning strategies. On Sunday morning, amidst rainy conditions, RQYS Radial expert Ben Franklin inspired the participants with his expertise and winning approaches, setting the stage for a day of exceptional competition.
The Youth and Junior team members, buoyed by the guidance received, showcased their talent and determination on the racecourse, particularly excelling in the ILCA 6 Division on day two.
A heartfelt appreciation extends to the dedicated volunteers and the efficient race management team, whose contributions were instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of the regatta. Special recognition is due to RQYS Race Officer Guy Moreton for his efforts in managing the event.
