Last weekend was an exciting and eventful one for our youngest sailors at the club. It marked the conclusion of Youth Squad activities for the year, as well as the final week (this year) of our Open/Intermediate Optimist Saturday morning racing.

Our last race briefing for Open/inter Opti Race for the year.

We are thrilled to report that our first term of racing was a resounding success with at least 23 Sailors competing each week. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Kylie, Phil and all the dedicated parents who volunteered their time and effort to ensure the smooth running of the racing. In true Optimist spirit, we celebrated the end of the term with a break-up BBQ marking another successful year.

End of year break up and celebrating their first Races – Sunday Green Fleet Opti Sailors.

Sunday brought even more excitement with racing for our Green Fleet Optimist sailors, many of whom participated in their first-ever races. A special thank you to Phil for managing the start boat and to the enthusiastic first-time volunteer parents who helped organise a fantastic morning of racing. The coaches and parents were incredibly proud of the young sailors, whose confidence visibly grew with each race.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Mike Middleton (Spikey) for capturing wonderful photos of the sailors during their first races, creating cherished memories for all involved. The day was capped off with a quintessential Opti experience a sausage sizzle and ice blocks in the Optimist BBQ area, much to the delight of our young sailors.

The season is far from over as this weekend we are proud to host the Queensland Optimist State Championships, with over 50 entrants from across the State already registered. We wish all our RQ Opti sailors the very best of luck for what promises to be an enjoyable event.
