I’m Phil, I compete in the IQ Foil Class, and I’ve recently moved from Melbourne to join the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, and the Queensland Academy of Sports sailing program.

Relocating was a big call, but my goal is to represent Australia at the Olympics, and RQYS is the right place to make that happen. The club’s commitment to foiling—from grassroots to high performance—is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve joined the QAS IQFoil squad here to train daily under coach Mitch Pearson alongside guys like Jarrod, Scotty and Rory, which has already pushed my sailing to the next level.
It’s been a great start so far. Sail Brisbane was my first regatta since the move and I was happy to come away with the win. I also recently placed 3rd at Nationals and 5th at the NZ Nationals representing RQ.
I am looking forward to gaining my coaching and instructor qualifications and I hope to use these to help coach the RQYS iQFoil youth squad and other sailing programs, I am also excited to share my campaigning experiences in order to support these up and coming sailors.
This next year, my calendar is split between daily training here at the Squadron, domestic camps with the Australian Sailing Squad, as a part of the Australian Sailing Futures squad, and four months in Europe, getting international racing opportunities at World Cup regattas, as well as the European, World, and U23 World Championships.
