Congratulations to Iona 1 for taking out 1st place at the QLD University and School Sailing Association (QUSSA) Open Team Sailing State Championships. It was a regatta well sailed by the team: Jordan, Hunter, Sam, Flynn, Archie, and Matt.
Also, a great effort by the Iona 2 team for bringing home a 4th. The final team was Toby, Alex, Zane, Sebastian, Mason, and myself. It was lots of fun and it would be great to do it again.
There were some strong teams in the mix consisting of former Teams sailors and coaches from other schools. There was also a strong representation from state and national level sailors from Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron dingy sailing. However, we proved that our Schools Sailing program has incredible strength.
Also, a shout out to our parent volunteers that made the day possible. The Clarke’s on the Change-Over boat and Ben W on the Iona Support/Lunch boat. A big thanks to Mark Phelps and Andrew McDougall for your help launching and retrieving the Iona Coach Boats.
It was a long day on the water, 730am until close to 6 pm. I’m proud of the boys and their efforts. They are constantly demonstrating strength in the sport.
Kia Kaha,
Iona College Sailing,
Coach Hayden Barney.
