Report by Head Coach Adrian Finglas

Our RQYS Academy Team had an actioned-packed morning with Gumdale State School’s Under-8s day. Children get to experience many different sports from pony and bike rides – but the most popular was the Opti ‘sailing’ familiarisation!

Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Adrian Finglas and lead Instructor Kayla Boothby, children learned about sailing and what the Bay has to offer. Young children, from Prep littlies to Grade 1s, get to sit in the Opti and try on a life jacket to familiarise them with what sailing looks like before coming down next year.

Gumdale State School has a sailing program that starts the children off at Grade 2 and they come down to the Squadron once a week for an 8-week period. Our Junior Sailing program is very proud of our Gumdale connection and many of our current champions went to school there!
