The International Finn Australian Championships were hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron over three challenging days of racing, with a strong fleet of 83 competitors split across two starts. Sailors were tested throughout the regatta by predominantly light and variable conditions, placing a premium on boat handling, patience, and tactical decision-making.
Despite the lighter breeze, the race management team led by Louise Davis, successfully delivered high-quality racing, while competitors from across Australia and a number of international entries demonstrated the depth of talent and competitiveness within the former Olympic Finn class. Many competitors used the Australian Championships as an opportunity to fine-tune their preparation ahead of next week’s Finn Gold Cup, which commences on Sunday.
RQYS member, Brendan Casey, was the Overall winner followed closely by another member, Rafael “Raffa” Trujillo with third place going to Ian McKillop representing RPAYC. 1st U29er was Jack Eickmeyer of MYC.
