Topic Talks – Whales in the Bay; A Maritime Hazard and an Ecological Treasure

June 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Join us for June Topic Talks with Susan Bengston Nash from Griffith University.

Griffith University’s Researchers have been studying migrating whales in our region for 18 years and share their long-term findings regarding the changing ecology of the whales, and what it means for maritime risk and risk mitigation.

In 2021, Moreton Bay was uncovered as a new resting stopover for migrating humpback whales. In 2025, the status was upgraded to a nursing ground. Since 2017, whale numbers in the bay have been almost doubling each year!

How do we navigate the industry, human safety, and conservation challenges ahead?

When: 7pm Thursday 25th June
