Last February, two RQYS boats, “Explorer 1” and “North West” sailed South to participate in the Van Diemen’s Land (VDL) 2026 Circumnavigation. This was the 17th time the VDL has been hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania and is widely considered Australia’s pre-eminent cruising event including the remote South West.
Come join us to hear from the two skippers Geoff McWilliam and Nigel Spork, sharing in their two-month adventure in the southern oceans. If you are interested in undertaking your own VDL, hearing about the adventures, or soaking in the spectacular Tasmania wilderness you must not miss this special presentation.
Topics covered will include:
How windy is it still safe to check lobster pots in a dinghy?
How much swell can a Fleming 65 cope with before spilling the coffee?
How much wine must you order to get a personal delivery from the Poolley Sales Rep at Constitution Dock?
*Very few flares will be set off during the presentation.
