AUS28 Campaign Update

We are back home after a two-month European trip, which was a great opportunity to line up against the world’s best in the Nacra 17 fleet. It was a big racing block, taking us from Palma and Hyères to our World Championships in Quiberon, France.

We raced in every condition, from super light hull-flying to super windy foiling. In Palma (Princesa Sofía), we lost a full day of qualifying racing because it was too light, while at the Worlds in Quiberon, we missed a day because it was too windy.

When we were on the water, the racing was high level. In both Palma and Hyères (Semaine Olympique Française), the class trialled new experimental racing formats with compressed points systems. Quiberon then threw a different challenge at us, with a super shifty and unpredictable course that made for very tricky racing. While we didn’t get the exact results we were looking for, the trip was incredibly valuable. We walked away with a lot of clear learnings and takeaways that we will put into practice.

We are having a short rest now before starting training on home waters. We head back over to Europe in mid-June for Kiel Week and the European Championships in Eckernförde. After that, we go to San Pedro, LA, for the final Grand Slam event of the year, which will give us our first look at the 2028 Olympic venue.

A massive thank you to everyone at RQYS. Having the support of the club, and the members back home makes a huge difference when we are overseas competing on the world stage.

Thanks,

Niamh Meehan
