Schools racing at RQYS Iona

November 09, 2023

Day 1 of Term 4 Schools Teams racing defied the gloomy forecast, delivering a thrilling day of sailing action. The rain turned out to be a blessing in disguise, taming the wind and keeping it below 15 knots, ensuring smooth racing on the schools’ course. Both the morning silver fleet and afternoon gold fleet successfully completed their round robins, with 21 races for the silver fleet and 15 for the Gold fleet.

In the morning session, the umpires had a relatively quiet day, sparing the red flags. However, chief umpire Nev kept a close watch on suspected pumping from accouple of the teams. Team MBBCGold emerged as the mornings victors, securing a 2-point win, earning them a well-deserved promotion from the Silver Fleet to the Gold Fleet for the upcoming races.

Over in the Gold Fleet, Team Iona College White showcased their prowess by outperforming the long-standing champions, The South Port School (TSS), with a 1-point lead. TSS will undoubtedly be eager to reclaim their dominance in the upcoming weekend races against Iona College White.

If you’re curious about how all the schools, including Iona College, The Southport School, Moreton Bay College, Moreton Bay Boys College, Brisbane Grammar School, and Lourdes Hill College, fared in the competition, you can check out the detailed results here: https://www.rqys.com.au/result/ . Stay tuned for more exciting racing action in the coming weeks!
