The Brisbane Women’s Keelboat Cup was held over the weekend with a small but incredibly competitive fleet of six boats taking to the start line. Despite the modest numbers, the racing was anything but modest.
Saturday’s race saw the top 5 boats finish within 90 seconds of each other after a 20 nautical mile race. This is an impressive margin over such a long course and a testament to the skill and competitiveness of the teams involved.
Sunday brought far more challenging conditions, with rain squalls sweeping across the course and winds reaching over 30 knots at times. Unfortunately, several boats retired and the remaining crews had to work hard as they managed the gusty and unpredictable weather.
A special thank you goes to the Mooloolaba Yacht Club team Jester, skippered by Tanya Kelly, who once again made the trip south to compete and support the event.
Congratulations to Christine Mah and the crew of Bazinga for taking out this year’s regatta. Christine is the only skipper to have competed in all six editions of the Brisbane Women’s Keelboat Cup, making this long-awaited victory a particularly special one.
