For young adults aged 18–30 who love being on the water but don’t necessarily have the time, budget, or boat to stay involved, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron’s Young Adult Sail & Social program offers the perfect solution. Designed as a relaxed, minimal‑commitment way to stay connected sailing, the program blends fun sessions with easygoing social time—no boat ownership required!

A Monthly Mix of Sailing and Socialising

Held once a month, each session features a different on‑water activity, keeping things varied and engaging throughout the year. Depending on conditions and group interest, participants might find themselves:

  • Sailing Elliotts
  • Windsurfing or foiling
  • Jumping into Quest dinghies
  • Stand-up paddleboarding
  • Joining a casual social cruise aboard a member’s boat

Every session brings something new, making the program accessible, flexible, and consistently enjoyable.

Designed for Experienced Young Sailors

Young Adult Sail & Social is tailored for those who already have sailing experience, and offers an affordable way to stay active without a regular committment. It’s especially popular with:

  • Instructors and coaches
  • University students
  • Young professionals
  • Former junior sailors returning to the sport

This program is for those with prior sailing experience. If you would like to Learn 2 Sail, please check out our courses HERE

Importantly, there’s no long‑term sign‑up. Participants simply register for the sessions they can attend. Costs are intentionally kept low—typically between $20 and $40 depending on the activity—and group sizes are capped to ensure a quality experience on the water.  After registering, sailors will be added to a group chat where communication stays casual and collaborative. It’s also where participants can vote on future activities and stay connected between sessions, helping build a strong and welcoming community.

Membership and Experience Requirements

The program is open to RQ Sailing Members (Crew or Full). Non‑members can join using a SailPass, which allows up to three sessions before membership is required.

Those who are new to sailing are encouraged to explore the club’s Learn to Sail programs, available at: https://www.rqys.com.au/sailing-academy/learn-to-sail/

Upcoming Session: 30 January 2026 – Elliott Social Sail & Sundowners

  • 1530 – Arrival, rigging, and safety briefing
  • 1600 – Afternoon sail with optional casual racing
  • 1800 – Return to shore and pack down
  • 1830 – Sundowners at the RQ Bar

Once registered, participants will be added to the RQ Sail & Social WhatsApp group for updates, activity voting, and community chat.

A Program Built Around Connection

At its core, Young Adult Sail & Social is about more than just sailing—it’s about building friendships, staying active, and enjoying the unique lifestyle that comes with being part of the RQYS community.  We’d love to welcome you on your return to RQ or for the very first time!
