The Power Cruising Group would like to welcome any and all RQYS members to join them for either both or one day of their cruise to St. Helena Island on Saturday and Sunday, 22 – 23 June.
Programme:
Saturday 22 June – tide times: high at 1236 – 1.7m, low at 1819 – 0.68m.
Meet on the beach for BYO sundowners from 1400 onwards. Return to boats before dark. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members!
Sunday 23 June – tide times: high at 0057 – 2.21m, low at 0744 – 0.73m, high at 1323 – 1.68m
Meet National Parks ranger on the beach at 0900. N.B. this tour is totally separate from the commercial tour commencing later in the morning. From past experience, this tour is both educational and historic, lasting approx. 2 hours. BYO lunch on the beach or on boats afterwards. The contribution for the Ranger is $8.00 for adults and $3.50 for children & concession holders. Correct cash for your group to be handed to Cruise Captain P/Cdr Denis Land for collection prior to 9am Sunday would be greatly appreciated.
Guidance points:
Please do not berth on the jetty as that may interfere with the commercial tour boat (Cat o’ ninetails). Dinghies can be tied adjacent the set of stairs midway along the jetty on the north east side. If wading ashore be aware of the rough bottom. We advise wearing appropriate footwear if wading ashore. Use VHF 67 while travelling and VHF 69 at anchor. If assistance is required call ‘North Light’ on the frequencies above.
If weather is doubtful, final decision will be made 0900 Saturday.
Please advise us of your attendance at powercruising@rqys.com.au. Please include Boat Name, Skipper Name, Crew numbers, and a mobile phone number (optional).
STOP PRESS – St Helena Island DATE CHANGE. Please note that the previously advertised excursion to St Helena Island is now rescheduled for Sat 22 – Sun 23 June due to more favourable tides for beach landings/activities.
Cruise captains Denis and Anita Land will lead this cruise with the services of a Park Ranger, to provide a private tour of the penal colony on the Sunday morning at 9am sharp. This excursion is open to ANY RQ member (Power or Sail) or even TRAILER BOAT MEMBERS that can make the short trip to the island on the Sunday morning for the tour (no overnight stay required).
Further details will be provided later, but please register your interest to attend by FRIDAY 14 June to Powercruising@rqys.com.au. Please note there will be a nominal fee per person ($8 pp/$3.50 Child/Concession) for the Ranger’s services.
