This Week from the Sailing Office

Weekending 23/11/2025 – Austin Sims RQYS Assistant Sailing Manager

Coming up this weekend

Saturday 29th:

Weekend Wrap Up.

This weekend turned out to be a fantastic one on the Bay. As forecast, Moreton Bay turned it on for Saturday’s Day 1 of the Etchells Brisbane Fleet Championships, where our on-water volunteer team delivered three great races. The points were incredibly tight heading into Day 2, setting up an exciting finish.

It was also great to see our Club Off-the-Beach fleets taking full advantage of the stellar conditions, with Northern Course kindly sharing their race area with the Etchells regatta.

Sunday didn’t start quite as smoothly. With a storm bearing down on Brisbane, Mark and I were in early contact monitoring conditions ahead of Schools Teams Racing scheduled for 0900 hrs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for the morning group, and racing had to be abandoned.

With a later start for Day 2 of the Etchells regatta, the storm had passed—but it left behind a glass-out. After nearly two hours under AP, the northerly finally filled in, allowing the fleet to complete all three scheduled races. It was incredible to watch how close the racing was, with some very competitive skippers putting on exciting (and vocal!) mark roundings.

Final scratch Results 1st MSNGHAM | 2nd Rapscallion | 3rd Waterloo Too

To wrap up the weekend, the afternoon Schools Teams Racing group—our Division 1 fleet—enjoyed perfect northerly conditions and successfully completed their finals round robin. Congratulations to the top three teams!🎉
