WAGS REPORT

DATE: 22nd. October 2025

WIND:   NNE 10- 15knts

COURSES   17BR

NUMBER OF BOATS:   32

Following last week’s interesting yet challenging sail to the Sandhills Recreational Mark, the Race Officer decided it was worth repeating the course—this time with the added twist of an outgoing tide to mix things up. With the depth of water a key consideration, the deep-keel yachts were given a 30-minute head start to ensure they could safely make their way back into the harbour on the return leg.

From the start boat, it was quite a spectacle to watch the rest of the fleet on AIS, jockeying for position and timing their runs to perfection (mostly) as the countdown approached. The breeze filled nicely, reaching 18kts in the latter part of the return leg, providing a following wind that made for a fast and enjoyable sail back to the finish. In the end, all competitors crossed the line well within the 1600-hour cut-off, rounding out a rewarding afternoon on the bay.
