Last Friday afternoon marked the exciting debut of radio boat racing at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. The event drew a fantastic turnout with people of all ages jumping in for training, racing, and “have a go” opportunities on the Bistro jetty. From seasoned sailors to wide-eyed newcomers, the energy was electric as sleek little DF65s zipped across the water, driven by steady hands and a whole lot of enthusiasm. Special thanks to the organizers and to everyone who brought their own boats, and of course to Scotty’s puppy-minding service which gave Trevor his chance to race. Now that’s teamwork!

With gusty breezes and big grins all around, it was clear this is just the beginning. And after what we saw on Friday, we know exactly what’s going to be under the Christmas tree for a few lucky kids (and adults!). The best part? You can still join in! Training and practice sessions will continue every Friday from 4–6pm on the Bistro Jetty in front of the Boardwalk until the end of October. It’s the perfect way to learn the basics of sailing without getting wet. The action ramps up even more in November, when the DF65 Championships begin.

Young and old are welcome, but spots are limited so book now to avoid disappointment!
