The things we take for granted. There are times when you forget how privileged we are, not only to sail in good company on a Wednesday afternoon, but just to survive and exist in one of the best places on the planet. That describes most Wednesdays and this one was one of the better. A steady nor’easter and a growing fleet provided the ingredients for another great sail.

The top mark was the Sandhills Rec. Mark and with the breeze sitting around 60 degrees it made for a very long beat from the start boat anchored well inside the bay and as true as possible to the breeze. There was a slight issue with a trawler anchored north of the Western Cardinal, in the channel, and by the end of the day I’m sure he knew everyone!

Once reaching the top mark and taking it to port, it was a nice running reach, against a very strong ebb tide, all the way back to the floating red at St. Helena. The tide was something else. Normally in a 15 knot breeze, on a reach, boat speeds of plus 7/8 knots plus would be seen. However not today. The tide proved a problem all the way home, down to the St. Helena Southern Cardinal, all the way back to the Green Island Western Cardinal and down to the finish boat just north of the leads. The winner sailed a cracker with boats 2nd through to 15th  covered by 3 minutes, followed by a small gap and another group that was covered by 5 minutes. Great to watch!!!! Hard to record, but fun!!! Good job.
