National Volunteer Week |
Club Member of the Year 2025

It’s no coincidence that we celebrate Club Member of the Year awards when we do.   It has much to do with the fact that this week in May every year, Australia celebrates National Volunteer Week.

National Volunteer Week celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’.  It’s a week we acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities.

Queensland Excellence in Volunteer Management nominee Phil Tooth

Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the premier celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia, and provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our community and to say thank you to the millions of Australians who volunteer.

And during this week, Volunteering Queensland hosts its annual celebration the prestigious Queensland Volunteering Awards.  This year, RQYS nominated its very own Phil Tooth in the category “Queensland Excellence in Volunteer Management” which is presented in acknowledgement of an individual salaried or non-salaried volunteer manager who have demonstrated outstanding best practice in the management of volunteers and the delivery of volunteering programs.

We are extremely proud of not just Phil but also of his merry band of volunteers – both on and off the water.  Our Finn’s Shed team, WAGS volunteers, committee members, social volunteers and more make RQYS the club it is today.

Congratulations to Phil on your nomination and to all volunteers everywhere who keep our communities running.   Our Club Member of the Year awards are a celebration of all your hard work – our thanks go out to each and every one of you who donates your precious time to RQYS.
