The yachts relished the once-a-year opportunity to fly a spinnaker on a Wednesday. Our Southport Yacht Club sailing cousins on “Hutchies Yeah Baby” started at the back of the pack and sailed through the entire fleet to cross the line in first place with a remarkable performance! The rivalry between “Jester” and “Ignition” was a highlight of the week, with a Deed of Gift and a bottle of rum at stake for each day’s race. In the end, youth and enthusiasm proved no match for old age and treachery as P/Cdre Tony Love and the “Jester” crew gave a master class to Ignition in addition to winning overall in the performance division. Al Jamieson and the crew on “Obsession” secured victory in the Cruising division by a narrow one-point margin after close battles with “La Quinta” and “French Kiss.” Brisbane Race Week wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of numerous Volunteers, the Sailing Office team, and the Race Committee, led by Paul and Nelly Bolton. Their efforts ensured a safe and enjoyable event for all. The Notice of Race and entry form for Brisbane Race Week 2025 (2–7 May) are now online. Gather your crew and come join in the fun of Brisbane’s most exciting and fun keelboat regatta! n To register and stay updated on the latest news, visit brisbaneraceweek.au Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Yearbook Mainsheet 2024 35 Brisbane Race Week Report
