The regatta kicked off with the “Hairy Hot Lap” around Green Island, a unique format that challenged navigators and tacticians to optimise their course for the fastest lap time. Skippers and crews could start the laps at any time, in any direction, keeping everyone on their toes with some close crosses. Friday evening saw crews embrace the festive spirit of Brisbane Race Week with a Mexican Fiesta, with guacamole, corn chips, a piñata, and lots of colourful costumes. The newly-introduced “Passion Pop Award” for the best and worst kite hoists and drops of the day added an extra layer of fun and competition to the daily presentations. Over the weekend, the fleet battled it out in a series of races around the newly installed Moreton Bay Recreational Marks, with close competition and plenty of ‘white line fever’ at the start line. The Labour Day holiday became “Making Waves Monday” and saw crews participate in the Long Passage Race around Mud Island, raising valuable funds for the Making Waves Foundation at the daily presentation. The Making Waves Farr 40 “The Tribe” made its Brisbane Race Week debut with members of ‘sailing royalty’ Wendy Tuck and Duncan Hine, at the helm. Tuesday’s Lay Day allowed crews to catch up on work matters while our Squadron’s esteemed Paul Bolton, burned the midnight oil to produce the start time for Wednesday’s grand finale, the Pursuit Race. 34 Trades Contacts
