Our inaugural Wynnum State High School groups showed remarkable transformations, testament to the dedication of our Volunteers! For them, the journey has been equally rewarding, highlighting the profound impact of mentoring and connection with the participants. As we look to 2025, we’re aiming to increase our weekly sails from four to six, enabling us to reach even more young people. Partnering with the Port of Brisbane and the Department of Sport and Tourism, we will use our programs to highlight the benefits of sailing on health and mental wellbeing, while promoting opportunities within the marine industry. In early 2025, we hope to establish our land-based initiative, Wright of Passage, targeting young people aged 15–18 who are disengaged from traditional schooling. This program will offer an alternative learning environment. Whether facing challenges such as social disadvantage, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or low levels of confidence, participants will find a space to rebuild, re-engage, and grow. We are so grateful for the support of the sailing community, our Volunteers, and the support of the Members, Flag Officers and the whole team at RQYS in helping us grow and continue to offer these experiences to those who need them! They were clearly experienced in working with people of all abilities and were very supportive and inclusive of everyone, students and staff participating. They had wonderful knowledge about sailing, and shared interesting information about the marine environment and the Bay.” Lisa Mahoney Beltran Inclusive Education Teacher Wynnum State High School 27 Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Yearbook Mainsheet 2024 Making Waves update
