RQYS MAINSHEET 2023

‘Weather windows’ always control the sailing aspect of cruising so during the bad weather times there is always company for land-based activities. On this year’s cruise we sailed to Keppel Bay Marina, with many of the group spending time on the beaches and walking tracks on Keppel Island. Hervey Bay whale-watching was a highlight as was Lady Musgrave for snorkelling and diving. All along the cruise to Keppel there were impromptu dinners and sundowners in Urangan, Bundaberg, Pancake Creek, Gladstone, Yeppoon and Keppel Bay Marina. RQYS Sail Cruising members were everywhere! Next year is shaping up to a great start with the Australia Day celebrations in January followed by more guest speaker nights, more great Bay cruises and a longer cruise south to the Clarence River. In reflection, it has been a rewarding year for the Sail Cruising Group. We come away with many wonderful memories and much greater knowledge of the self-sufficiency that is required to enjoy life on a boat. n Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Yearbook Mainsheet 2023 37 Sail Cruising Group report
