INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Green Fleet and Intermediate Sailors participants have commenced their Winter Series, concluding on 2 September 2017. The groups are preparing for the upcoming Summer Season and the Opening of the 133rd Sailing Season on 9 September 2017, where Intermediate will be racing on the Southern Course with the Open Classes, and Green Fleet will have their own smaller course located closely to the Southern Course.
The RQYS Optimist Green Fleet is a development initiative to encourage young sailors who have completed Tackers 3, to continue on and begin learning how to race. Through training and racing with Green Fleet, and as a part of the Club Racing program, students will move through higher level squads to prepare for State and National level competition. The next level up is Optimist Intermediate Squad, where training continues at the same times/dates but becomes more intense. The two squads usually train separately, however sometimes train together.
To qualify to join Green Fleet or Intermediate Squad, sailors require the following:
- Current/Financial RQYS Junior Membership
- A Boat – Either your own Optimist, an RQYS Fibreglass Optimist ($150.00 per series/school term) or an RQYS Poly Tackers Optimist ($50.00 per series/school term). If you do not own your own boat, you must ensure you book a boat with the Sailing Academy
- Tackers 3 Completion Certificate or Equivalent (must be approved by RQYS Tackers coordinator)
Any parents who are eager to get on the water and help with the racing, please contact us.
