PL01 Launches at Horseshoe, 6th May 1917

This photo was lent to me in 1991 by the then Redland Shire Council’s Ranger for Peel Island, Ray Cowie. He was given it by a crew member of the Stradbroke Ferries. In 1917, the island was off limits to the public because it was the leprosarium for Queensland (1907 – 1959), but, judging by all the footprints in the sand, this did not deter those boaties from coming ashore. In the background is The Bluff, at that time denuded of vegetation from its quarantine days (1870s – 1910) and Inebriate Asylum (1910-1916). Do any RQ members know if any of these vessels shown in the picture are still extant?
