International Women’s Day
This Thursday is International Women’s Day and RQYS is putting on a full day of events!
We would like to invite you along with your girlfriends to 2018 International Women’s Day at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on Thursday 08th March 2018. The Squadron will be hosting a three-part event to accommodate a diversity of interests and schedules; all events will have been organised and will run under this year’s IWD Theme: Press for Progress.
Our International Women’s Day agenda, join us for any or all of the following events:
0900 – 1030hrs: Morning Tea co-hosted by Bayside Women in Business! ($10)
A morning tea panel and networking event in our Harbour View Restaurant and Boardwalk Café; co-hosted by the remarkable and empowering community group Bayside Women in Business. Coffee, cake and fruit included.
This is a great opportunity to listen and learn from the professional and personal stories of our panellists: three women in very different phases of their career who can offer equally different reflections on their past experiences and future outlook.
This is also a chance for women in our community to build important social and business connections with one another; promoting health and well-being.
1200 – 1500hrs: #Sail #LikeAGirl @royal_qld_yacht_squadron (Free!)
The RQYS has a strong and proud tradition of supporting women to excel in the sport of sailing, and we have a formidable competitive women’s fleet who race across a number of classes on weekends and in major events. We also have a powerful cohort of young women growing their skills in our sailing academy, a number of women who are actively embracing recreational sailing.
We wholeheartedly support women’s participation in sailing at all levels which is why we decided to make IWD a challenge, rather than race or cruise. We’ll provide a list of optional ice-breaker challenges to help you get to know your crew – and you never know, there could be a prize!
There will be both sailing and power vessels of varying size, and all vessels will be skippered by experienced women who will show you the ropes. We therefore invite women of all skill levels, experience, interest and demographics join us as crew – there will be something for everyone!
We hope this event offers you an opportunity to enjoy and ultimately share the sport we love, and open doors for women to get involved in both our recreational and competitive pathways if they choose to do so down the track.
1530 – 1730hrs: Cocktails & Canapes ($35)
A relaxing wind down after a fun day on the Bay, or an opportunity to swing by after work and celebrate female empowerment with your friends. Guests receive a cocktail or glass of bubbles on arrival, a chef’s selection of savories and a chance to explore the power of and opportunities for women in sailing especially at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
This event embraces and empowers women as active members of the community, encourages participation in a life-long sport and fosters individual, family and community well-being. It also contributes to RQYS’s goal of pressing for progress in areas of familial inclusion and gender equality within the sailing and greater communities.
Ultimately, it is our vision to leverage International Women’s Day to raise the profile of women as equals in all areas of the sailing and wider community, and have a great time doing so.
Please contact RQYS Reception: 3396 866 or firstname.lastname@example.org today to book into your preferred event – come for one or stay all day – and join us in celebrating the empowerment of women in our community and sport!
