DESCRIPTION:Stay on after WAGS for a special evening at RQYS.   \nTo mark the occasion of Sydney-Hobart 2025\, we invite you to join the Commodore at this special “send-off” event at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on 3 December 2025 from 6pm in the Member’s Lounge. \nWe welcome special guest speaker and solo world sailor and adventurer Tony Mowbray for an amazing presentation on “The Power of Commitment”. \nIn his own excerpt from his latest book “Never Give In”\, Tony says: \nI would like to take you on a journey.  It’s going to be a journey across many oceans\, over a lot of water but very much a journey of human spirit.  This is not a sailing story\, it’s much more than that. \nMy seven crew and I participated in the fatal 1998 Sydney to Hobart yacht race in which 6 men tragically died\, 55 were rescued and a number of boats sank. On our boat\, for 15 hours\, we thought that we had found out how we were going to die.  By a slim margin\, we managed to survive that incredible cornerstone event in each of our lives. \n1 year and 10 months later\, my yacht Solo Globe Challenger\, had been rebuilt and in October 2000 I headed back to sea in an attempt to sail solo\, non-stop and unassisted around the world. \nOver the years\, I’ve had more than my fair share of harrowing near death situations. \nI’ve learnt a lot about myself and what makes me tick. \nWe look forward to farewelling several of the boats and crew representing Queensland at this year’s Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht race\, including six boats from Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.  Join us in wishing them well and enjoy dinner in the Member’s Lounge during the presentation. \n  \n
