NOTICE: As the 2016/17 Summer Season comes to an end for Green Fleet and Intermediate Sailors, participants prepare for the Optimist Winter Series (Training Program with Racing); tailored by the Sailing Academy and the new RQYS Optimist Coach, Mel Haw. It is imperative that parents email through the details of the child participating, to start off their enrolment. The cost for the Winter season is $250.00 + Membership and will cover April 2017 – September 2017, excluding the whole month of July 2017. The program will commence after the Easter break, on Saturday 22 April 2017. All new Green Fleet sailors will need to meet at the Sailing Academy at 08:30 am on this day for a general induction. If the weather is suitable, the fleet will then head onto the water to commence training straight away. The training throughout the program will be a mixture of coaching and racing, from 08:30 – 12:30 (4 hours) on Saturdays, with any race results being published online on the RQYS Results page.

INFORMATION

The RQYS Optimist Green Fleet is a development initiative to encourage young sailors who have completed Tackers 3, to continue on and begin learning how to race. Through training and racing with Green Fleet, and as a part of the Club Racing program, students will move through higher level squads to prepare for State and National level competition. The next level up is Optimist Intermediate Squad, where training continues at the same times/dates but becomes more intense. The two squads usually train separately, however sometimes train together.

*To qualify to participate in the Green Fleet and Intermediate Programs, sailors must:

1) Have a Financial RQYS Junior Membership. Please use this link for the Membership form: Membership Application Form or pop into Reception to collect one.

2) Have paid the $250.00 Winter Series entry which covers the program.

3) Have your own boat OR a loan optimist/tackers boat from the Sailing Academy. Loan optimists cost $150.00 per term. Loan tackers boats are free however still do need to be assigned to sailors. Must be booked A.S.A.P
