Types of Membership
Squadron membership is open to all persons with an interest in boating. Application forms are available from the Squadron office.
Two major categories of membership are available – Boating and Non-Boating. Boating Membership provides for voting rights (except Crew and Junior) and access to the Marina. Non-Boating Membership has no voting rights and does not provide access to the Marina.
Owners and Skippers: Following participation in any three RQYS events other than invitation events, any non member owner and/or skipper of a participating boat is required to become a member, in the appropriate category of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squardon.
Crew: Following participation in any RQYS event, other than invitation events, in any one financial membership year a non-member crew of any participating boat is also required to become a member of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in any subsequent financial membership year.
MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
Boating
- Fully Paid Membership – Subscriptions paid for life
- Full Membership – Boat owners and/or holder of a sub-lease of a Marina berth. Available to persons 25 years of age and over, living inside a 100km radius of the Brisbane GPO.
- Full Country Membership – Boat owners and/or holder of a sub-lease of a Marina berth. Available to persons 25 years of age and over, living within a 100 to 400km radius of the Brisbane GPO.
- Senior Membership – 60 years or over and no residency stipulation. Boat owner and/or holder of a sub-lease of a Marina berth.
- Senior Long-Term Membership – 60 years of age with 20 years membership – no residency stipulation
- Crew Membership – 24 years and over – no residency stipulation – allows members to use the Squadron’s hospitality areas and crew on boats – Crew membership is not available to boat owners or skippers of boats.
- Associate Membership – available to the spouse/partner of all categories (except Junior). Allows entry to the Squadron grounds and licensed areas
- Absentee - members of at least twelve months standing and permanently residing outside a 400km radius of the Brisbane GPO may apply for Absentee membership. This membership does not allow rental of a Marina berth or to hold a Marina berth sub-lease.
- Young Adult – available to persons 18 to 24 years of age, no residency stipulation.
- Junior – available to persons 0 to 17 years of age, no residency stipulation.
Non-Boating
- Social – use of licensed areas only – 18 years or over – no voting rights
- Senior Social – use of licensed areas only – 60 years of age or over – no voting rights

Please note: Subscriptions are worked on a pro-rata basis (May to April) – please contact the Squadron Office for the correct payment of fees.
