Junior Sailing Program
Continuous Program

Course Overview:
This course is designed for children between the ages of 7 and 12 who want to learn how to sail in a fun and exciting environment. It doesn’t matter whether the child has never sailed before or is learning to race. This course caters for each student’s individual needs. From the Junior Sailing Program, students progress to Optimist Green Fleet Racing or Pacer Racer.

The Junior Sailing Program follows the current system:

Vagabond Level 1
This is the initial entry level of the course. It is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to dinghy sailing. At the completion of this level, students will be familiar with small boats and possess essential safety knowledge. At this level students are with a Junior Instructor at all times.

Vagabond Level 2
This level is designed to further the knowledge gained in Vagabond Level 1. Vagabond Level 2
includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills whilst under the supervision of an instructor.

Optimist Level 1
This level allows the students to transition the skills they have learnt in the Vagabonds into an Optimist dinghy. Students are closely supervised as they get used to sailing a boat by
themselves.

Optimist Level 2
The final level of Junior Sailing Program works to hone the sailor’s skills on the water. At the completion of this level the student should be able to competently sail an optimist around a triangle course, leaving them with the necessary skills to begin Green Fleet Racing.

Every student is issued with their own log book which will guide them through the levels of the Junior Sailing Program.
