Welcome to the RQYS Powerboating Homepage
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron’s Powerboat section caters for a range of competitive and recreational interests associated with powerboating such as competitive Navigation Events (a true test of navigation skills and bay outings).
Elsewhere in this section, full details of the Squadron’s Navigation Event Program can be found. Tremendous inter-club camaraderie has been generated through the Navigation Event Program as many of the events involve members from other Clubs and the Goodwill Cup is perhaps the best example of the great boating spirit generated from such events.
Each year, the Powerboat Committee conduct regular bay outings. These cruises in company around the Bay and local river systems have become extremely popular and have over time, included trips to the Oyster Farm at Day’s Gutter and a cruise in company to Carrington Rocks Boat Club.
Some of our members venture further afield with extended cruising to the Bunker Reef and Lady Musgrave Island and beyond and are more that happy to have other members, who may for instance be on their first trip north, cruise in company with them.
The Powerboat Committee conducts two competitive log events each year. Each of these events attract points towards the Squadron Champion Award and other Perpetual Trophies. Competition amongst powerboats is divided into two divisions – Displacement Division for vessels with a nominated speed up to 10 knots and Planing Division for vessels with a nominated speed of 10.1 knots or more.
