About the Squadron
One of Australia’s premier yacht clubs overlooking the Manly Boat Harbour, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is proud of its long history which stretches back over 125 years and still to this day is “the place” for boaties to meet, compete and socialise.
The Squadron has evolved into a multi-faceted organisation and members, some third and fourth generaion families, enjoy a comprehensive range of facilities, both on and off the water.

World Class Facilities
Some of the best facilities in the world are on offer at the Squadron, in an ideal location, for boaties who need a berth, want to sail competitively,or just need somewhere to store of launched their boat for cruising, a fishing trip on the bay or further afield.
Car and trailer parking is available and with four rigging lawns and lanching ramps, getting on the water has never been easier.
While you’re on shore there are wide open spaces, grassed areas, the club house with a well stocked bar and bottle shop and in-house dining and take away food available.
Every season the Squadron is the focus for many national and international regattas and our signature event, the Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race is an annual event.
Down the Bay Facility – RQYS Canaipa
The boating facilities at Canaipa, on the picturesque north eastern tip of Russell Island, are perfect for nautical pit stops. Canaipa offers showers, toilets, laundry, grassed lawns and a swimming pool.
Sailing
The Squadron offers a comprehensive range of sailing related activities including;
Sailing School
Children and adults alike are taught to sail in a fun, safe, supervised environment and further development raining for sailors who want to race competitively is offered. Other courses are also available to enhance your boating education.
Competitive Sailing
Weekend competitive sailing is offered for “off-the-beach” dinghies, Etchells and right up to ocean racers. WAGS social racing takes place on Wednesday afternoon. Members have an outstanding record as champions at State, National, International and Olympic level.
Sail & Play
Programs conducted during school holidays for 7 to 12 year olds who think sailing, raft building, knots, island adventures, sailing science, kites, team building and navigation sounds like a load of fun! Check out the Sail & Play website »
Volunteers
We have a team of friendly, helpful volunteers who provide excellent on-water and on-land management for racing and major regattas.
Powerboating
Powerboaties can enjoy the sport of navigation eventing. Similar to a car rally, small and large powerboats compete in a navigation trail over a set course at a nominated speed. It’s great fun, competitive and allows you to meet lots of new friends.
Cruising Groups – Power and Sail
What a great way to meet new people and sail the beautiful waters of Moreton Bay and beyond. Cruise in the company of either the powerboaties or the yachties for a weekend or sometimes longer. Once a month they explore the bay and surrounds.
SOCIALISING
Come and join us at one of the many club social activities, gourmet dinners, trivia nights, childrens Christmas party and presentation nights – there’s always something happening at RQYS.
The Boardwalk Cafe & RQ Bar
The relaxed atmosphere, water views and friendly, professional service make the alfresco style dining in the Boardwalk Cafe the perfect place to enjoy a meal.
Flags Functions Room – For Business, For Pleasure
A function venue offering harbour views in air-conditioned comfort. For small business meetings through to large corporate events, cocktail parties, weddings, staff Christmas parties or school formals our professional and friendly staff will take care of your every need on that special day.
BBQ Area and Children’s Playground
Cook your own BBQ for a relaxed meal while you children play in the fenced playground area.
Mainsheet
The Squadron’s fill colour magazine keeps members informed of forthcoming events, important club information, stories of interest and an opportunity to advertise goods and services to other members.
Merchandise
Members wear the Squadron logo, polos, caps and belts, with pride worldwide. There is an extensive range which also makes for great gifts.
